About Us
Determined Art Movement (DAM) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based out of Oregon, providing community art, storytelling and justice work.
Our mission is creative collective art with equity actions, since 2014.
The purpose of DAM is to unite art with equity initiatives in the creation of safe and courageous spaces that facilitate positive community synergy. We aim to:
Create opportunities for community participation and partnerships.
Establish safe and courageous spaces for open dialogues that revolve at a glocal (globally local) level.
Strengthen personal, professional, and community relationships through collaboration.
Utilize the cathartic qualities of art to heal our communities.
Give people the opportunity to engage in artistic expression to channel positive energy.
Our Story
In 2014, a group of Oregon State University students and Corvallis community members joined to form the Determined Art Movement (DAM) committee. Unified by a Collective Mural Project at the Centro Cultural César Chávez (2012-2014) the group grew and their passions strengthened, leading to this newly founded community organization.
In the summer of 2018, DAM expanded a sister branch in New Delhi. This initiative is by and for the local communities of different cities within India. Our primary focus is to create a space that allows for mutual learning and empowerment, collaborating with local artists and activists. In July we embarked on a mural-making journey, creating relevant collective pieces for a diversity of people around Delhi. Our long-term vision is to create meaningful and accessible conversations about equity through the medium of art.
DAM is a collective of experienced creatives, educators, scientists, community activists, and more. We interweave our diverse perspectives, skills, and knowledge as a collective of multi-disciplined creatives into our artwork. Some of us come from immigrant families and identify as people of color, first-generation college students, queer, trans, disabled, neurodivergent, and low-income. We believe that our unique lived experiences add to our working capacity and inform how we approach our artwork and art-making process.
